CAMBRA is a new test to determine how active germs are in the mouth, which is a key factor in diagnosing and preventing cavities. CAMBRA stands for: CAries Management by Risk Assessment.
A CAMBRA test is easy and safe. A cotton swab is gently rubbed along the teeth. The swab is mixed with a chemical in a test tube and the tube is inserted into a device that reads the numbers of active bactieria. The higher the number, the more likely the person is to have dental decay.
Once the CAMBRA test is complete, a customized course of treatment can be prescribed designed to reduce the number of cavity-causing germs in the mouth.
CAMBRA has been approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
